FUTURE LEARNING GOALS

Never Stop Learning

Teaching is truly an art and science, and for teachers, the learning opportunities are seemingly endless. In the ever-changing landscape of our world, it is essential that educators are preparing our students for the future. This makes continued education a necessity for all teachers. To continue to improve my craft, I plan to do just that: never stop learning.

My future learning goals are all different ways that I can continue to foster my own professional learning opportunities including reading & listening to podcasts, pursuing another master’s degree, and becoming a Google Certified Educator. Technology has really changed how and when we learn, so many of these learning experiences will be through listening and engaging with online communities. My MAED program was completely done online, so I appreciate the flexibility online platforms create.

By pursuing a variety of learning opportunities, my hope is to foster an innovative learning community that encourages life-long learning.

Goal 1: Read, Listen, Learn!

I always tell my students how we ‘read to learn’ yet I haven’t always practiced this myself. With my program ending, I plan to read and engage in conversations about books that encourage me to continue to innovate within the classroom. The first book I plan to read is Powerful Teaching: Unleash the Science of Learning, which was recommended by a friend. It is my goal to read about research-based practices that I can use to strengthen instruction.

I also plan to listen to Cult of Pedagogy Podcast as another opportunity to improve my craft. The episodes provide quick professional development opportunities that will support my goal overarching goal of innovative teaching. These episodes are something I can integrate into my daily commute, so I will not need to carve out additional time to listen.

Goal 2: Pursue A Degree in Educational Leadership

So much of my professional learning occurs within my own classroom. However, to expand my knowledge of administration and leadership, I plan on pursuing a degree in Educational Leadership. During the 2018-2019 school year, I was able to participate in RELAY Graduate School of Education’s National Principal Academy Fellowship (NPAF) while holding a leadership role at my previous school. I was able to learn so much not only being a leader but also an effective teacher from the courses. I would like to continue to study Educational Leadership and enhance my knowledge while collaborating within a cohort of aspiring leaders.

Goal 3: Become a Google Certified Educator

To prepare students with 21st century skills, appropriate use of technology is essential. Becoming a Google Certified Educator would enable me to sharpen my skills, so I am able to expand upon meaningful learning within the classroom. My district is currently 1:1 with Chromebooks for grades 3+, so all programs run through Google. Being able to utilize more of the tools within the G-Suite will allow me to not only use technology in a more creative way, but it will help all students to become responsible users of technology.

Looking Ahead

Education has changed so much in the last 20-30 years and will continue to evolve as the needs of our students change. It is my hope that continuing to engage in a variety of professional learning opportunities will enable me to continue to make learning meaningful for all students. Reading books on education and listening to the latest podcasts, I am able to stay up to date on current research and ideas that can improve instruction and student achievement. Another master’s degree will allow me to continue to collaborate with peers and gain more experience as a leader. Becoming a Google Certified Educator will mean I am staying up to date on technology and providing students with the tools needed in the future. Together, these learning opportunities will positively impact my knowledge and creativity that will drive instruction further.
